A widely shared Chinese study which claimed the coronavirus could travel nearly 15 feet and stay in the air for 30 minutes was retracted without explanation on Tuesday morning.
"The study at the centre of this article on the transmission of the coronavirus was retracted on Tuesday by the journal Practical Preventive Medicine without giving a reason," the South China Morning Post reported. The study had tried to determine how various passengers on a CCTV-monitored four hour bus ride got infected. The furthest away passenger who got the virus was at a distance of 4.5 meters.
The CDC currently believes the coronavirus is spread "between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet)," "through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes," and by people "touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads."
