A rural Texas police officer who shot and killed a 93-year-old woman wielding a gun will not face charges stemming from the May incident. A grand jury declined to indict Stephen Stem, who was fired from the Hearne, Texas, police department just days after killing Pearlie Golden. Golden was the second person Stem shot and killed in just 22 months on the small enclave’s police force. He fatally shot a suspect in December 2012 and was not indicted in that case, either.
