Two Somali rioters in Minneapolis interviewed by CNN on Friday night called for authorities to "free" killer cop Mohamed Noor. WATCH:
Asked by CNN what "justice" would look like in the case of George Floyd, the men said "the same thing which happened to Mohamed Noor." "We want a prosecution, that's what we want," the men said. "Free Mohamed Noor!" one of the men then abruptly shouted into CNN's mic. "Free that man right now!" the other man screamed. "Thank you guys," the CNN reporter responded, "please be safe out there."
Mohamed Noor was the Minneapolis Police Department's first Somali-American police officer assigned to Southwest Minneapolis's Fifth Precinct. In 2019, he was found guilty of third-degree murder for shooting 40-year-old Australian yoga teacher Justine Damond Ruszczyk after she called police to report hearing a "female screaming" behind her apartment that she thought may have been being raped. Noor shot and killed Damond when she approached he and his partner's squad car. Noor's partner claimed they were "startled by a loud sound" and "both got spooked." Whereas Derek Michael Chauvin was fired and charged immediately, Noor was placed on paid leave for eight months before being charged. Noor is currently appealing his sentence.
