Soros-funded Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum scored a major upset over his Democratic rivals on Tuesday to win the party's nomination for governor.

Gillum ran on a platform of "free medicare for all" (a wealth redistribution scheme which will take from hard-working Republican taxpayers to give to unemployed Democrats), paying teachers $50,000 per year through a $1 billion tax hike and abolishing ICE.

As The Intercept reports, "[Gillum] was successful in part because of the financial backing of liberal billionaires George Soros and Tom Steyer, who poured more than a million dollars into the race through their organizations, the Open Society Foundation and NextGen America, respectively."

From the Miami Herald:
Democrat Andrew Gillum rode a surge of liberal support from young people and African-Americans to a stunning primary victory Tuesday and the historic opportunity to be the first black governor in Florida’s history.

With 94 percent of the votes counted, Gillum had an unofficial 3-percentage point lead over his closest rival, former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham. Gillum overwhelmed Graham in Miami-Dade and Broward, the state’s two largest Democratic counties, by more than a 2-to-1 margin, in the highest turnout for a midterm primary election in Florida history.
“I am overwhelmed,” Gillum told a cheering crowd of supporters at a victory party at Hotel Duval in downtown Tallahassee. “I want you to know that this thing is not about me. This race is about every single one of us. Those of us inside this room. Those outside of this room. Those who voted for me. Those who didn’t vote at all. And those who didn’t vote for me because they are Republicans. But I want to be their governor, too.”

Running to the left of his rivals and despite being vastly outspent, the charismatic and proudly liberal Gillum built a devoted statewide following of progressives. He had a well-received message of social justice and lifting up the downtrodden and an appeal to Florida’s growing diversity.
The radicalization of the Democratic Party is happening way too fast and is very likely to alienate average American voters.

Gillum is up against Ron DeSantis, who came from behind to solidly win the Republican primary after being endorsed by President Trump.

DeSantis talked about how far-left Gillum is with Laura Ingraham after his primary victory on Tuesday night:

Partial transcript:
LAURA INGRAHAM: Are you surprised that Gillum wins on the Democrat side, so, he'll be your challenger? Endorsed by Bernie Sanders, as you just heard us talk about, [George] Soros and Tom Steyer, both pitched in, total about $650,000. It seemed to make a difference down the home stretch. So, you are going to be -- you are going to be running against a hard left former Tallahassee -- or Tallahassee mayor?

RON DESANTIS: He is the most liberal candidate that the Democratic Party has ever nominated in the state of Florida, by a country mile, in a governor's race. He wants to abolish I.C.E., he wants a billion dollar tax increase, he wants a single-payer health care system in Florida, which would bankrupt the state. I'm trying to make Florida even better, he wants to make Florida Venezuela.

But he also combines a far left ideology with managerial incompetence. As mayor of Tallahassee, his tenure has been absolutely disastrous. Tallahassee is one of, if not the most crime-ridden city in all of Florida, year after year, rising crime, he is embroiled in the lot of corruption scandals, this is not -- this is a guy can't even run the city of Tallahassee. There is no way Florida voters can entrust him with our entire state.

INGRAHAM: Now congressman DeSantis, in your jubilation and your celebration, you may have missed that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted out congratulations -- not to you, but to your challenger, Andrew Gillum, saying, "The progressive movement is transforming the country and he proved that again tonight. Gillum ran on Medicare for all, legalizing marijuana, abolish I.C.E. and more. Thank you, Florida voters! On to November."

I would wear that as a badge of honor tonight, congressman.

DESANTIS: Well look, we have people in Florida who have fled socialist countries like Cuba and Venezuela. They don't want that imported into Florida. We also have people who flee from left-wing policies in states like New York and Connecticut, and they don't want that imported into Florida. So, I think we want to keep Florida great, we want to keep it going in a good direction and going in the direction of an Ocasio-Cortez is just untenable and it will not happen in Florida.
Everyone needs to vote Republican no matter how bad your candidate is just to thwart the establishment's agenda short-term and prevent a blue wave. Long-term, we obviously need a total rout of the Republican Party, but that's already steadily happening thanks to President Trump.

For now, Big Tech are sacrificing their multi-trillion dollar platforms just to get Democrats elected so they can overthrow our great president.

The left have made it clear they want to throw open our borders, replace our electorate with foreigners, censor our internet, shut down all our websites and start World War III with Russia.

We can't let these bastards succeed!
