Protecting Pets From Police

by Tim Lynch

From the Associated Press:
Dog lovers concerned about recent cases where law enforcement fatally shot people’s pets lobbied Colorado lawmakers on a bill Wednesday that would require new training for law enforcement on how to handle canine encounters in the line of duty, a legislative idea that appears to be unique in the country.

The bill unanimously passed the Senate Judiciary Committee and will be considered later by the full chamber.

Several dozen dog owners rallied outside the Capitol before the bill was heard. Some held signs that read, “Officer, please don’t kill me,” with an accompanying picture of a dog.
This is going to catch on with lawmakers around the USA. Long overdue.

20138 It's a great idea. Here's another, how about after they learn how not to kill people beloved pets on a whim, and how to handle it, they could then...

Learn that citizens are allowed to photograph and videotape them while they are out on the job as long as they are not truly in the way of the officers...and...how to handle people without having to resort to tazing, swarming, punching, etc. And then maybe about citizens rights...oh..the list goes on.

97104 They might as well have combined the sensitivity to pets training with brutality to people training.

Brutality to people? "No doubt they deserve it and worse! Bash 'em one for me! Taze 'em. Club 'em! No, shoot 'em!!!"

Brutality to dogs? "Ohhh...poor little doggies. You must be nicer to them!"

125237 More training? You're kidding, surely! How about just "leave pets alone you psychopaths" and STOP KILLING PEOPLE TOO!!

Cops have got no right to "handle" anything, people or dogs or any other pets.

Go back to sweeping out the court house and eating donuts.
