The Syrian government fell on Sunday to a "lightning offensive" from Turkey-backed rebel terrorists with links to ISIS and Al-Qaeda.

From AP, "Syrian government falls to fast-moving rebels, ending 50 years of iron rule by the Assad family":
The Syrian government collapsed early Sunday, falling to a lightning rebel offensive that seized control of the capital of Damascus and sent crowds into the streets to celebrate the end of the Assad family’s 50 years of iron rule.

Syrian state television aired a video statement by a group of men saying that President Bashar Assad had been overthrown and all prisoners had been set free.

The man who read the statement said the opposition group, known as the Operations Room to Conquer Damascus, called on all rebel fighters and citizens to preserve the institutions of “the free Syrian state.”

The statement emerged hours after the head of a Syrian opposition war monitor said Assad had left the country for an undisclosed location, fleeing ahead of insurgents who said they had entered Damascus following a remarkably swift advance across the country.

Many of the capital’s residents were in disbelief at the speed at which Assad lost his hold on the country after nearly 14 years of civil war that killed hundreds of thousands of people, displaced half the country’s prewar population of 23 million and drew in several foreign powers.
The US State Department in the past condemned HTS as terrorists but now they're being rebranded as "diversity-friendly" jihadists.

Rebel terrorists a week ago credited Israel's attacks on Syria and Hezbollah for their shock advance and professed their "love" for the Jewish state.

"Nobody knows if Iran and the [Syrian] regime would have been weakened without the recent Israeli attacks in Syria, which have allowed us to return and free the lands and the country," an opposition activist told Israel's Kan public broadcaster.

As the Times of Israel reported:
"They accuse us of cooperating with you because we were quite happy when you attacked Hezbollah, really happy, and we're glad that you won," the source said.

Both said the rebels had no issue with Israel. "We love Israel and we were never its enemies," the man from the Idlib area said. "[Israel] isn't hostile to those who are not hostile toward it. We don't hate you, we love you very much."
Israel Lobby mouthpiece Aaron Y. Zelin of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP) had an article in The Telegraph on Tuesday titled, "How Syria's 'diversity-friendly' jihadists plan on building a state."

Zelin and WINEP have been lobbying for Abu Mohammad al-Jolani -- the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) leader who served in both al-Qaeda and the Islamic State -- to be removed from the US's list of foreign terrorist organizations for at least two years now.

President-elect Donald Trump, who is receiving intelligence briefings, said early Sunday that Assad had fled the country and added, "Russia and Iran are in a weakened state right now, one because of Ukraine and a bad economy, the other because of Israel and its fighting success."
