![]() ![]() From Haaretz, "Leaked Documents Allegedly Reveal Israel's Preparations for Attack on Iran": American documents detailing Israel's preparations for an attack on Iran were leaked online on Friday. The documents, allegedly leaked from the U.S. Department of Defense's National Incident Management Systems and Advanced Technologies (NIMSAT) institute, outline findings from ongoing surveillance of Israel's preparations for a response to the October 1 ballistic missile attack. The documents appear to have been first posted online by the news aggregator the Middle East Spectator. ![]() ![]() The documents describe a "major attack" involving some 56 ballistic missiles, according to the Middle East Spectator.
"The alleged intelligence report also detailed preparations in Israeli drone units for an attack against Iran," Axios notes. The document also acknowledges Israel has nuclear weapons through their assessment that "we have not observed indications that Israel intends to use a nuclear weapon." The Washington Post reported earlier this week that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told President Biden that Israel will not attack Iran's nuclear or oil facilities but Netanyahu's press office came out after the news leaked to say they would only "listen" to the "opinions" of America on what to strike and "will make our final decisions based on our national interests." Iran reportedly told the US through backchannels two weeks ago that "if Israel's response to the [previous Iranian] ballistic missile attack is limited to certain targets, Iran would consider this round closed and would not respond" but US officials immediately leaked it to the Israelis, possibly causing Netanyahu to change course.
