Polish right-wing MP Grzegorz Braun, who went viral last month for putting out the candles of a Hanukkah menorah in his country's parliament building with a fire extinguisher, has been stripped of his legal immunity and is being hammered with a host of charges going back to 2022 for his act of defiance.

The menorah was placed in parliament by the Chabad-Lubavitch movement who made headlines last week for digging a secret tunnel under their world headquarters in New York City.

Nothing happened to Braun back in Jan 2023 when he threw an LGBT-themed Christmas tree into the garbage at the Regional Court building in Krakow but now they want to throw him in prison for extinguishing Chabad's menorah.

From BBC, "Grzegorz Braun: Polish MP who doused Hanukkah candles loses immunity":
MPs in Poland have voted to revoke a far-right politician's parliamentary immunity from prosecution, after he put out candles lit in celebration of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah last month.

[...] Prosecutors say they plan to bring several charges against the MP, who is from the ultra-nationalist Confederation party, including destruction of property, insulting an object of religious worship and violation of bodily integrity.

Every party voted in favour of revoking his immunity, except the Confederation party.

"There is no reason to protect him using immunity... We know what he did and it was not acceptable," said Agnieszka Pomaska, a lawmaker from the Civic Coalition (KO).

At the time, parliament speaker Szymon Holownia called his actions "disgusting" and said "there will be no tolerance of anti-Semitism" in the assembly.

The far-right politician has gained notoriety in the past over stunts including dumping a Christmas tree decorated in the colours of the EU and Ukraine in a bin, and damaging a microphone during a talk by a Holocaust historian.

Prosecutors also want to charge him with separate incidents that happened in 2022 and 2023.
"My immunity was lifted. The prosecutor's office intends to bring seven 'charges' against me, falsely formulated in the application," Braun said Thursday on X after the vote. "The prosecutor's request covers acts that NEVER HAPPENED AT ALL!"

Last month after the incident, Braun shared a series of retweets stating Poland is occupied territory ruled by "a Talmudic and Satanic cult, extremely hostile to Christianity":

"There can be no place for acts of racist, tribal, wild, Talmudic worship on the premises of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland!" Braun said on X.
