After news surfaced that Chabad-Lubavitch had a secret tunnel built under their world headquarters in Crown Heights, conservative "influencers" sprung into action to tell their millions of followers the Orthodox Jewish sect is heckin' basederino!
The Chabad-linked publication CrownHeights.info themselves admitted the tunnels had nothing to do with getting around covid restrictions. LibsofTikTok's Chaya Raichik, who is a Chabadnik herself, put out the official Chabad line on Twitter blaming "teens" for building the tunnel under the synagogue "on their own," against the will of "synagogue leadership." "Gen Z was taught that nothing is more important than their feelings and now they're emboldened to act entitled and spoiled with zero regard or respect for others," Raichik said. "We keep seeing this time and again in all our institutions. We must fix the broken education system. The future of our country depends on it." "This post is misleading," read a community note on her post. "Many people were seen entering and exiting the tunnel. Additionally, the riot at the tunnel entrance suggests there were many people involved in the operation."
We still don't know who built the tunnel as no one seems to have been charged for the crime. The tunnel was unearthed three weeks ago but no one heard about it until Monday due to the riots. Though building permits in NYC can take months to be granted, police were apparently simply going to fill the tunnel with concrete rather than investigate what the hell is going on.
