Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) called out the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC over their reported plan to spend $100 million "to unseat the few [members of Congress] who believe in Palestinian human rights and a ceasefire that most Americans already support." "Criticism of the Israeli gov is virtually nonexistent in US politics, but apparently that's not enough," Ocasio-Cortez said Wednesday on X. "Gotta spend *$100 million* to unseat the few who believe in Palestinian human rights & a ceasefire that most Americans already support. The acceptable level of dissent is 0."
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) started dumping money into ads attacking Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) last week because he announced he would not be voting to send billions of additional American taxpayer dollars to Israel on top of the billions we've already sent.
We were told endlessly throughout Trump's presidency that Russia trying to influence America was the worst thing in the world but we're supposed to support Israel interfering in our elections? As AOC noted, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll found 68% of Americans want Israel to call a ceasefire and only 32% of Americans say "the US should support Israel" in their war with Gaza. Nonetheless, we have almost no representation in Congress and Israel lobbyists are going to spend $100 million (or more) to try and oust the only congressmen and congresswomen who don't want America to fund and back Israel's war!
