Judge Orders Biden Regime to Stop Pressuring Social Media Companies to Silence Protected Speech

An heroic federal judge on Tuesday stood up to the Biden regime's relentless assault on the First Amendment by ordering the administration to stop contacting social media companies to pressure them to silence protected speech.

From the AP, "Injunction blocks Biden administration from working with social media firms about 'protected speech'":
A judge on Tuesday prohibited several federal agencies and officials of the Biden administration from working with social media companies about "protected speech," a decision called "a blow to censorship" by one of the Republican officials whose lawsuit prompted the ruling.

U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty of Louisiana granted the injunction in response to a 2022 lawsuit brought by attorneys general in Louisiana and Missouri. Their lawsuit alleged that the federal government overstepped in its efforts to convince social media companies to address postings that could result in vaccine hesitancy during the COVID-19 pandemic or affect elections.

Doughty cited "substantial evidence" of a far-reaching censorship campaign. He wrote that the "evidence produced thus far depicts an almost dystopian scenario. During the COVID-19 pandemic, a period perhaps best characterized by widespread doubt and uncertainty, the United States Government seems to have assumed a role similar to an Orwellian 'Ministry of Truth.' "

Republican U.S. Sen. Eric Schmitt, who was the Missouri attorney general when the lawsuit was filed, said on Twitter that the ruling was "a huge win for the First Amendment and a blow to censorship."

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said the injunction prevents the administration "from censoring the core political speech of ordinary Americans" on social media.

"The evidence in our case is shocking and offensive with senior federal officials deciding that they could dictate what Americans can and cannot say on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other platforms about COVID-19, elections, criticism of the government, and more," Landry said in a statement.
The Biden regime escalated their attack on the First Amendment in May with their "National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism" which called on "all online platforms" to ban "extremist websites," ban "hate speech" and institute "zero tolerance" policies to protect Jews from "antisemitism."

The Biden regime in the past also pressured social media companies to "reduce hate speech" and "narratives" they claimed were "dangerous to public health."

Last year, the White House issued veiled threats directed towards Elon Musk after he bought Twitter talking about holding social media companies "accountable" for the "harms they cause" and calling for "reforms to Section 230" rules which shield social media companies from liability for their users' posts.

These are all blatantly criminal, highly illegal attacks on the First Amendment but no judge until now had the balls to stand up to this regime.

"The judge, Terry A. Doughty, has yet to make a final ruling in the case, but in issuing the injunction, he signaled he is likely to side with the Republican attorneys general and find that the Biden administration ran afoul of the First Amendment," The Washington Post reports. "He wrote that the attorneys general 'have produced evidence of a massive effort by Defendants, from the White House to federal agencies, to suppress speech based on its content.' "

It's quite fitting this ruling came on Independence Day!
