"Law and order" conservatives: When they are right, they are so right; but when they are wrong, they are so wrong.
They are right when they decry the militarization of local police. They are right to point out that the DOD 1033 program has transferred over $5 billion worth of military equipment from the Defense Department to local police forces. They are right to oppose more federal laws and mandates relating to local police. They are right to oppose a federal police "czar" like t... (more)
I watched this video Peter Schiff just posted of his father probably around 10 years ago. It was great at the time, but watching it again for the second time I find it even better. This man's way of cutting through bullsh*t is unparalleled.
Until April of this year, Christopher Penner was an entrepreneur. Now, despite the fact that he has never committed a crime against persons or property, he is an indentured servant.
For several years, Penner owned an embattled but marginally successful nightclub in Portland, Oregon. Today, according to his attorney, Jonathan Rademacher, Penner has a job managing a bar owned by somebody e... (more)
The Western media has only two tools. One is the outrageous lie. This overused tool no longer works, except on dumbshit Americans.
The pinpoint accuracy of the Russian cruise missiles and air attacks has the Pentagon shaking in its boots. But according to the Western presstitutes the Russian missiles fell out of the sky over Iran and never made it to their ISIS targets.
According to the presstitute reports, the Russia air attacks have only killed civilians and blew ... (more)
President Obama and his mouthpieces in the mainstream press are outraged that Russian President Vladimir Putin is partnering with Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad in the global war on terrorism. "Doesn't Putin realize that Assad is a dictator?" they exclaim. "Why doesn't Putin instead work with the U.S. to oust Assad from power? they ask.
Putin's position is that Assad is a great partner in the global war on terrorism and, therefore, should not be ousted from power. Putin and Assad sa... (more)
Dr. Barbara LeSavoy, gun confiscation advocate and Director of Women and Gender Studies at The College at Brockport in New York, may be the authentic embodiment of contemporary totalitarian leftism. She might be LARPing – that is, Live-Action Role-Playing – in the character of a self-lobotomized ideologi... (more)
The American Empire is deteriorating. It's been going downhill for decades. The descent is likely to continue, alleviated irregularly by policies that retard the decline or even reverse it for a time.
The general pattern set by declines of previous empires is occurring in this country. There have been at least 215 empires in the last 5,000 years. They have all declined and fallen, as will the American Empire.
The IDEA that there is an American Empire is not widely ... (more)
The pattern of blacks being killed by American police gave rise to the "black lives matter" campaign, which gave rise to the "police lives matter" campaign in response. But there is a fundamental difference between the two. The implication in the first campaign is that black lives matter as much as any other lives (which of course is true), whereas many of those repeating the mantra of "police lives matter" seem to believe that the lives of badge-wearers matter more than the lives of ordinary p... It is not yet clear if the political sea change that has taken place in Canada will also be ideological. Under the leadership of Justin Trudeau, the 43-year old neophyte who has never held an executive post, the left-of-center Liberals have unseated Stephen Harper's Conservatives with an overwhelming parliamentary majority that no poll or commentator had predicted. They will have virtually a free hand to govern.
It happens every four years. Candidates for president issue books to sucker people to vote for them using the written word just like they sucker people every day to vote for them using the spoken word.
One of the latest "presidential" books is by retired neurosurgeon and Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson. The book is his second salvo, since he authored with the same publisher last year One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America's Future.
The US Treasury's recent announcement that the government will reach the debt ceiling on November 3 means Congress will soon be debating raising the government's borrowing limit again. Any delay in, or opposition to, raising the debt ceiling will inevitably be met with hand-wringing over Congress' alleged irresponsibility. But the real irresponsible act would be for Congress to raise the debt ceiling.
Cutting up its credit card is the only way to make Congress reduce spending. Any... (more)
Because of the Fifth Amendment, no one in the U.S. may legally be forced to testify against himself, and because of the Fourth Amendment, no one's records or belongings may legally be searched or seized without just cause. However, American police are trained to use methods of deception, intimidation and manipulation to circumvent these restrictions. In other words, cops routinely break the law--in letter and in spirit--in the name of enforcing the law. Several examples of this are widely known,... (more)
When socialism finally collapsed all around the world in the late '80s/early '90s the academic Marxists did not just throw in the towel and face reality. Indeed, not one of them has ever apologized for providing intellectual support for some of the worst mass murderers in world history -- Stalin, Mao, Castro, and the rest of the communist/socialist gangsters. Instead, they reinvented themselves in several different ways, including posing as "environmentalists," and as "cultural Marxists." ... (more)
My father Irwin A. Schiff was born Feb. 23rd 1928, the 8th child and only son of Jewish immigrants, who had crossed the Atlantic twenty years earlier in search of freedom. As a result of their hope and courage my father was fortunate to have been born into the freest nation in the history of the world. But when he passed away on Oct. 16th, 2015 at the age of 87, a political prisoner of that same nation, legally blind and shackled to a hospital bed in a guarded room in intensive care, the free n... Apple just rolled out its high-definition voice protocol. It sounds like the person is standing next to you. You can hear everything, even slight breathing inflections. It's amazing.
That new technology gives it an edge over the competition. And there's plenty of it. You can make voice calls on the Facebook app, on Google Plus, on Skype, and probably one hundred other applications. And get this: they are all free.
The last time I made a Facebook audio call from my... (more)
Russia and its President, Vladimir Putin, a little more than a year ago, in July 2014 were the focus of attention in Europe and North America, accused, without a shred of forensic evidence, of shooting down an unarmed civilian Malaysian airliner over eastern Ukraine. The Russians were deemed out to restore the Soviet Union with their agreement to the popular referendum of Crimean citizens to annex into the Russian Federation and not Ukraine. Western sanctions were being thrown at Russia by both ... (more)
Depending on one’s point of view, Bernie Sanders either held his own or boosted his chances against perceived front-runner Hillary Clinton in Tuesday night’s Democratic presidential primary debate. His message clearly resonated with the live audience, particularly his statements about raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour, global warming, and government-mandated paid childcare leave.
Progressives are emboldened by Sanders, who reportedly draws upward of 20,000 people at eve... (more)
I moved to Auburn, Alabama, in January 2013. I love Auburn.
It's been nearly ten years since The Wall Street Journal profiled the Mises Institute and claimed that Auburn was an ideal spot for studying libertarian ideas and the Austrian tradition. I don't know how much has changed since then, but I arrived in Auburn expecting a free-market sanctuary, a veritable haven where the ideas of Menger and Mises and Hayek were i... (more)
When I read that the report on the downing of the Malaysian airliner over Ukraine was being put in the hands of the Dutch, I knew that there would be no investigation and no attention to the facts.
And there wasn’t.
I did not intend to write about the report, because Washington’s propaganda has already succeeded, at least in the Western world, in its purpose of laying the blame on Russia. However, the misrepresentation of the Dutch report by Western media, such as N... (more)
I'm sitting in the car with my Uber driver and he points to some construction on the road. We are driving through the clogged streets of downtown Manhattan.
"See that construction? It's been that way for 10 years," he notes, pointing to a big mess of blockages and torn up asphalt that is causing traffic to crawl. "Every day, 100 guys show up, drinking coffee, talking on their phones, having fun, and two guys, two Mexicans, are working on something. But nothing ever changes. The co... (more)
“Fear isn’t so difficult to understand. After all, weren’t we all frightened as children? Nothing has changed since Little Red Riding Hood faced the big bad wolf. What frightens us today is exactly the same sort of thing that frightened us yesterday. It’s just a different wolf.” ― Alfred Hitchcock

Let's say you have a trade deal that completely eliminates 18,000 existing tariffs between 12 countries that are otherwise hectoring each other with punishing trade barriers. To a person with a brain, this sounds amazing. Unless you are a luddite, a nativist, or a unionist, there seems to be every reason to support it. Trade is good. Global commerce is good. Fewer trade barriers are a good thing.
But let's say that this same treaty binds all 12 signatory nations to an egregious im... (more)
If there is one thing that the smelliest, most down-and-out, most destitute, most forsaken homeless guy who sleeps under a bridge has in common with Donald Trump it is that they both own their own bodies. That may be all the homeless guy owns, but he owns it free and clear and should be able to do what he wants with it.
And so should we--as long as our activities are peaceful, our interactions are consensual, and our associations are voluntary.
