The Address Downtown Hotel in Dubai was engulfed in flames Thursday, spreading across more than 20 stories. The five star hotel, near the site of the city's New Years celebration, rained burning debris down on the street below. A tweet from the hotel indicated that authorities were already on scene preparing to battle the blaze. "A fire has been reported in the Address Downtown hotel. Authorities are currently on-site to address the incident swiftly and safely #Dubai," the tweet said.
According to the Daily Mail, "It was not immediately clear what caused the fire at the five star hotel, which is near the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest skyscraper." Despite being covered in flames, the building failed to collapse inward on itself at near-free fall speed. |
