Texting While WALKING Banned in New Jersey Town

Avid texters beware: Fort Lee, N.J. police said they will begin issuing $85 jaywalking tickets to pedestrians who are caught texting while walking.

“It’s a big distraction. Pedestrians aren’t watching where they are going and they are not aware,” said Thomas Ripoli, chief of the Fort Lee Police Department.

[...]Officers handed out pamphlets during a short grace period in March before they began aggressively going after “dangerous walkers.”

More than 117 tickets have been issued, according to the New Jersey Record.

Texting is retarded anyway. It is a step backwards in technology...

Why type when you can talk directly. I'll tell you why because they like to feel super secret or something when they communicate out in "the open public". Whatever.

I may not think texting is exactly inspired communication - I would much rather talk to my girlfriend at the kitchen table, while walking, or sitting on the couch than text her. But it's a way to be polite when in an area that a phone call would be disruptive, and it's helpful when in an area that a phone call would be nigh impossible to partake in. Say, disrupting a wedding or church sermon, or trying to talk on the phone while standing or walking past a heavy construction area or any other source of loud noise.

This, as a law, is retarded. Texting is a distraction sure, but this will do nothing more than piss people off while stealing more of their money.
