A couple of users who post as a "Guest" had their comments mass-deleted by Disqus early Wednesday morning. I suspect the mass-deletion is due to an overly-aggressive spam detection algorithm on Disqus' part but I'm not sure as the comments are only showing up in Disqus' "deleted" tab and not their "spam" tab. This isn't the first time it has happened (it started a few months ago) but it was one of the most aggressive mass deletions I've seen them perform. I've commented on this in the past but I assume most people didn't see it. These deletions are completely out of my control. I've manually restored as many comments that they deleted as I can but I have to go one by one and approve every guest comment to have them reappear and it's just not feasible for me to go back months manually approving every one. Please note, if you're not logged in, I am unable to whitelist your account and prevent or reverse any such mass-deletions because Disqus only allows mods to whitelist logged-in users. The best way to avoid your comments getting deleted in this manner is to create an account and not post as a guest. If you see your older comments with the name "Guest" now instead of the name you originally posted as, that means it was deleted and restored. If you posted as a guest and your older comments with the name you chose are still intact, this issue hopefully will not affect you.
