Video: Cop Slams Woman Face-First Into Ground, Breaks Facial Bones, Smashes Teeth

Disturbing number of cases of cops 'face planting' people who resist

A California woman broke four bones in her face and lost several teeth after a cop lost it and smashed her head into the ground while she was handcuffed at a police station.

Megan Sheehan, a professional model, was arrested last month for being intoxicated. She acted belligerently and resisted, and she paid dearly for it.

ABC News 7 obtained video from several angles showing Sheehan being booked at the Santa Rita jail. When she once again became unruly, the Bay Area Rapid Transit officer attending to her had had enough, face-planting her into the concrete floor.

Because Sheehan was handcuffed, there was no way she could break her own fall. She was instantly knocked unconscious and started bleeding profusely from the face.

“I should have never gotten that drunk, but also there are ways to detain someone and not break their face,” Sheehan said. “I don’t believe that they should have broken four bones in my face and knocked out some of my teeth.”

The police report states that Sheehan was “violently punching” the officer before being “guided to the ground.”

In actual fact, the video shows Sheehan, a smaller woman obviously incapable of harming the much bigger officer, was merely flailing around. She was “guided” to ground in the same way a hammer is “guided” onto a nail.

“They knew by throwing her to the ground without having her hands available to break the fall, that she was going to suffer serious head injuries,” Sheehan’s attorney, John Scott said. “I believe she had to be taught a lesson. In police jargon, she flunked the attitude test.”

Sheehan has filed an excessive force lawsuit against BART and the Oakland Police Department.

The case is just one among many recent disturbing incidents of cops violently taking people down, face-planting them into the ground.

Just days ago in Texas, video surfaced of an officer knocking a mother unconscious by slamming her to the pavement in full public view, in front of her 6-year-old child.

Indeed, there are so many cases of this type of take down occurring, often when the subject is handcuffed, some ending in paralysis or even death. It is clear that cops are being trained to deal with subjects in this manner.
