Newly released video of the South Carolina trooper who shot a man for reaching into his car to grab his wallet shows the trooper was either delusional or lied to his supervisor about the altercation. 31-year-old Sean Groubert says in the extended video his victim, 35-year-old Levar Jones, "jumped out of [his] car" after being ordered by Groubert to "let him see his hands." Then, upon seeing "something black in his hands" he claims he ran to the other side of his car, but Jones "kept coming towards [him]," at which point he shot him. In fact, Groubert shot him almost immediately after asking him to grab his wallet, and rather than "jump" out of his car, at which point he saw something in his hands, Jones only turned away from his car at the point Groubert started yelling for him to "get out of the car." Here's a video report on the new tape from WLTX. You can see the officer's tale is flat out wrong, whether Groubert was lying or just delusional is anyone's guess. |
